Tofino Canvas Winter Boot in Chili Pepper/Black

Actress and designer Rachel Bilson has just included the Sorel Tofino on her list of Top Holiday Picks.

Although designed to be a lightweight winter boot, the Tofino Canvas women’s boot will keep you warm and dry in winter weather.

The Tofino Boots Have Been Used For:

  • staying warm and dry on ski trips
  • walks in snowy woods
  • snowstorm in New York City
  • running errands in town
  • walking commute to work

What Customers Like:

  • Very comfortable, even in all-day use
  • Lightweight and less bulky compared to other winter boots
  • Able to wear in office setting without feet getting hot
  • Good fit even for wider feet
  • Feet stay warm and comfortable even after several hours in cold weather
  • Room to accommodate custom orthotics

Things to Consider:

  • Please note that the Tofino boot is not rated for sub-zero temperatures.  One major concern is that while it is designed for snow and winter use, a study of customer reviews did reveal a few customers that did not feel the same warmth in more extreme temperatures compared to other winter boots, such as the Joan of Arctic or Cate the Great (both rated for sub-zero temperatures).
  • Up until now (January 2012), we have come across one online customer review that has mentioned the lack of waterproof protection after walking a snow-packed trail.  Meanwhile, other customers have been satisfied with the waterproof protection and warmth during snow use, even in knee-high snow.  Perhaps this was only one pair of defective boots, but still worth mentioning.
  • A few customers did not like the look of the faux fur (a bit matted), compared to the Joan of Arctic boot.
  • It may feel a bit narrower than most winter boots, something to consider for wider feet.  However, several customers noted that the Tofino was a good fit even for wider feet.
  • Approx. 60% of Zappos.com customer reviews rated Tofino as having moderate arch support.

Things to Consider:

  • There was some concern by a few customers about the gusseted tongue not being full length and whether this would affect its waterproof effectiveness.  We contacted Sorel.com via email about this issue.  A Sorel representative pointed out that the gusseted tongue on the Sorelia Earhart Leather and Shearling boots (not the mid-calf Sorelia boots) extends only midway up the shaft of the boot because a fully gusseted tongue on a tall boot would make it significantly difficult to put on or remove.
